Gayle expects thrilling finish

WEST INDIES captain Chris Gayle agrees that the three-match one-day international series with England is set for a thrilling finish tomorrow at Nottingham.

Gayle was speaking against the backdrop of his side winning the second one-day international against England on Wednesday at Edgbaston by 61 runs.

"(To win the series) would be a big, big, big thing - I can't even describe it right now how it would feel if we win the series," exclaimed Gayle at a news conference following the match.

"We will keep our fingers crossed, play some basic cricket, go out there and just do the right things - Everything was combined in this game and this is what I've asked for, I've got it, we got a win and we can't complain."

Gayle was satisfied with the intensity his side has shown in the two ODIs and the Twenty20 Internationals that preceded them and also commented on the competitiveness between the two sides which has boiled over into one or two confrontations between players on the field.

"In cricket, we need to be more determined, if we can get on top of opponents earlier it will better our cricket some more," he said.

He added: "The guys have been playing cricket against each other for quite some time now so it is nothing personal. They have been at it already.

"We're just trying to get on top of them as early as possible. They did the same thing, so it is a little 'vice versa' as they say. There is nothing personal, it's part of the game, and I hope no one is taking it too seriously."

Good fielding

Gayle felt the bowling attack has been doing a great job, and he was particularly pleased about the fielding.

"I think the bowlers did a tremendous job even from the previous game," he said.

"(Daren) Powell and (Ravi) Rampaul leading the way, and Fidel Edwards came in the middle, and restricted them, so it was good all-round cricket.

"The fielding is tremendous. We've been doing a lot of fielding with Julien (Fountain, the fielding coach).

"The guys have been putting in the work so the hard work is paying off right now, one more game to go so hopefully we can continue and better our performances in this game."
