West Indies pacer Edwards undaunted by loss

LONDON, England (CMC):

West Indies pacer Fidel Edwards is undaunted by his team's loss to England in the first One Day International (ODI) at Lord's on Sunday.

Edwards set his team on a victory path when he produced a splendid five-wicket haul that stifled England to 225 all out.

But the touring side's batting crumbled for 146 when they replied, and England surged to a 79-run victory and a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

"I think we bowled well and it was a good total to chase down, unfortunately we didn't get it, that's life, we have to go back and work hard," Edwards said after the game.

The 25-year-old Edwards bowled with sustained pace and after removing talented opening batsman Alastair Cook, ripped through the middle-order at the point when England entered their last 10 overs and would have been seeking to increase their run-rate.

"The ball was reversing and I love when the ball is reversing. The wicket wasn't that fast, but it had a bit of bounce so I tried to use both of them and it worked for me," he said.

Man of the match

Man of the Match Edwards said his previous experience in England taught him how to be effective on wickets here.

"I have been here (in England) already and I learnt from the way I bowled here the last time. To come back now you probably have to hit the wicket a little harder, that is what I didn't do the last time I was here and I tried to correct it and I am getting some good results now."

Edwards, who has played 27 Test matches and 24 ODIs, was picking up his second five-wicket haul in his career and showed great emotional delight with his successes.

"I was excited to get five at Lord's. That was a dream for me," said Edwards, who recorded an ODI career-best six for 22 on debut against Zimbabwe in November 2003.
