Beach volleyball tournament heats up

With two legs completed in Kingston and St. Mary, the Out and Bounce Beach Volleyball Player Registration Tour heads to Ocho Rios, St. Ann, this Saturday. The venue for this event will be the Ocho Rios Bay Beach. Local teams from in around the parish will seek to secure a spot in one of the eight places in the National Beach Volleyball finals to be held at the Barbican Beach Facility in Kingston on Saturday, September 29.

According to the rankings and points accumulated, only three male teams and three female teams have secured places in the final eight so far. In the male category these are the pairs of Mark Lewis and Dany Wilson, Gotashue Bonner and Namarie Gordon, and Errol Smith and Kevin Williams. The female pairs are Shanique Green and Cherine Richards, Nardrake Hutchinson and Sandra Walsh, and Tanice Burke and Latoya Fonty.

With two available spots, the Ocho Rios leg will prove to be a vital point of interest for those teams yet to secure a place in the final eight. In Ocho Rios, the lower ranked teams from previous legs of the tour will try to improve their points standing while going up against the experienced beach volleyball players in and around St. Ann.

The Ocho Rios event is scheduled to serve off with the preliminary round starting at 9:30 am and extending to 2:00 pm. The semi-finals and finals will be played at 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm respectively.

From Ocho Rios, the tour will move on to its final stop in Negril on Saturday July 21.
