Volleyballers two wins away

Jamaica's quest to qualify for the next round of the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World Championships qualifiers will continue this evening when they take on the Cayman Islands at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

Jamaica, which defeated Haiti in straight sets, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20, in their opening encounter Wednesday night, will be seeking to record their second win and book a place in tomorrow's semi-finals, which like Sunday's final and third-and-fourth play-offs, will be played at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The top-two teams from the Jamaica's leg of the qualifiers will advance to the next round of the qualifiers. The other participating teams are Mexico, St Lucia and The Bahamas.

"We haven't seen them as yet, so we are not sure what to expect," said Jamaica's coach, Dave Jack, of the Caymanians, who up to press time last night were still involved in their opening game.

"But we don't want to lessen our opponent's ability and think that we are better than them. We will be approaching it exactly like we would approach any top opponent, by playing hard from start to finish, and hope that this will be good enough to pull us through," he added.
