Elections not on agenda for AGM

The Jamaica Volleyball Association (JVA) will have its annual general meeting today at the Sport Development Foundation, 31 Phoenix Avenue, St Andrew, starting at 5 p.m. No election of officers will be on the agenda, but a recap of the year's actives and projections for the way forward will dominate the evening's AGM. President Wayne Robertson said his presentation will also include assessing its performance for the year and looking at the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for the coming year. He will also zoom in on the national senior and junior prorgammes for 2009 and beyond, upcoming activities, including the schools' leagues, Round Two World Championship Qualifiers (May 17-24) at National Arena and the women's Qualifying for Barbados (May 24-30). The national teams will also be involved in tournaments such as the North America, Central America and Caribbean Cham-pionships (June 24-29) and the Caribbean Games in Trinidad and Tobago in July (13-19). The launch of parish associations will also take place. Westmoreland is the only parish association so far. The AGM will also officially confirm Kevin Bell as general secretary. He has been acting for two months. Meanwhile, five matches will be played this weekend to close off the year. At G.C. Foster College today, the University of West Indies (UW) 'B' face University of Technology at noon, and Venus take on G.C. Foster College at 2 p.m. in Division Two games. Pioneers tackle St Jago at 11 a.m., G.C. Foster play Titans at1 p.m. and UWI B take on Pioneers at 3 p.m. in tomorrow's matches.
