JCA LIMITED-OVERS COMPETITION: Seven through to quarter-finals

THE QUARTER-FINALISTS in the JCA All-Island Limited-Overs Competition are all but decided after champions Melbourne and St Catherine CC were joined by five others qualifiers after yesterday's final round of matches of the preliminary round.

Leading the list of qualifiers were St Ann and St Elizabeth who, like Melbourne and St. Catherine, maintained their unbeaten records following wins over Trelawny and St Catherine Parish respectively.

The other matches - Clarendon versus Manchester, and Lucas versus Kensington - were not played due to weather-related field problems, while the Kingston versus Portland match-up scheduled for Folly Oval was not played due to a reported stand-off between Kingston and the umpires regarding the safety of the outfield.

A decision on the outcome of that game is expected shortly, given the fact that the winner will advance to the next round as the eighth and final qualifier.

St Elizabeth, led by West Indies' representative Brenton Parchment and veteran all-rounder Davian Davidson, defeated Trelawny by 66 runs while St Ann, led by Orville Pennant, got the better of St Catherine Parish by four wickets.

Scores: St Elizabeth 191: (Parchment 81, Temar Allen 4-48), Trelawny 125-8 (match reduced due to rain delayed start - Davidson 3-14).

St Catherine Parish 149-7: (Lloyd Rattray 52 not out), St Ann 154-6 (Pennant 60 not out, Kevin Kelly 3-27).

In other results, Police defeated St Mary by 154 runs, Melbourne edged the JDF by three wickets, while St Catherine CC dispatched minnows Kingston and St Andrew by 153 runs.

Scores: Police 181: (Renford Bodie 58, Odale Wickam 35, Marlon Byfield 4-29), St Mary 154 (Claudius Thompson 42, Desmond Brown and Kemar Frazer 3-20).

St Catherine 218: (Keith Hibbert 67, Tamar Lambert 60, Kebar Brown, 3-49, Solomon Darby 3-36), Kingston and St. Andrew 65-9 (batting one short).
