Jamaica title hunt begins today in Cayman

JAMAICA, LED by national champion Xavier Rose, begins its title hunt at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC) in the Cayman Islands today.

The Jamaicans are expected to face stiff competition from the likes of Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, The Bahamas, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

The team will compete in five different trophy categories, namely: Hoerman Cup (Rose, Paul Thompson, Fabian Campbell, Delroy Johnson and Jonathan Newnham); Ramon Baez Trophy (Radcliff Knibbs and Gifford Wilmot); Francis and Steele Perkins Trophy (George Hugh and Robert Chin); Higgs and Higgs Trophy (Dennis Atkinson and Hamar Dayes) and the George Teale Trophy (Jodi Barrow, Maggie Lyn and Vittoria Marley).

Youngest female

Marley is set to become the youngest female to represent Jamaica at the senior level at age 15. She will play alongside her aunt, Barrow, and the evergreen Lyn. Even more astounding, Newnham, 13, will become the youngest male golfer to represent Jamaica at the senior level when he makes his debut today.

Newnham had scores of 77, 74, 78 and 81 at the national trials to earn himself a place on Hoerman Cup side.
