Good day for junior golfers

Thirty-four youngsters from across Jamaica competed in the first tournament in the qualifying series for the Caribbean Junior Golfers competition at the SuperClubs Breezes Runaway Bay Golf course last Saturday.

Jordon Lowe, with a score of 54, topped the boys' level three. He was followed by Christian Chin, with a score of 57 and Seymour Edwards, with a score of 58.

In the 13-and-under age category for girls, Danielle Morris emerged the winner with a score of 59 and Jayda Thompson took second place with 64.

For the 14-15 age group, the girl who led the pack was Zanab James, with 46. She was followed by Rochelle Prince, with a score of 48 and Crystal Gayle, 52.

In the boys under-13 category, Dwight Moulton won with a score of 42 and Oshane Hay was just one point behind, on 43. Third place went to Demar Brown.

The next round of qualifying games will be held in St Andrew at a course to be decided.

The Breezes junior golf summer programme produced big winners. Six of the juniors who received medals and trophies are members of that programme, which is held annually to expose children to the sport of golf.
