Golf Champs now 54 holes
The second day of the Jamaica Amateur Golf Championships was completely washed out due to the heavy rains which lashed the island yesterday. The 54-hole championships will therefore be reduced to 36-holes when the golfers take to the course today at 8:00 a.m. (weather permitting).
The leader on day one, Fabian Campbell with a two under par score of 70 will take his one stroke lead into the final day. He is closely followed by Xavier Rose who ended Friday's first day with a one under par 71. Both players are also on the team to represent Jamaica in early August at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships in Cayman. Lying in third position is Paul Thompson on 76. He is also a member of the team which will travel to Cayman for the CAGC. In the Ladies section, Jodi Munn-Barrow is expected to be the runaway winner after her one over par 73 on day one which is well ahead of Shelly Hendrickson who ended the day on 90. Munn-Barrow is on the team for the Caribbean Championships next month. The national championships has attracted 62 players inclusive of males and females and is being used as a warm-up for the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships which will get under way August 3 in Grand Cayman.
