Jamaica remain fourth at golf champs

JAMAICA REMAINED in fourth position overall after the second day of the 21st Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship came to a close in Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.

A good distance behind front runners and former champions Puerto Rico, who added 50.5 to their first day total of 49.5 for an overall total of 100, the Jamaicans, after a first-day total of 30.5, finished yesterday with a combined score of 63.5.

In second place, defending champions Trinidad and Tobago are right behind Puerto Rico as they finished the day on 95. The Dominican Republic are in third with a two-day total of 81.5.

Jamaica's boys continued to lead the charge as, finishing round two on 20 points, they were breathing down the necks of Trinidad and Puerto Rico, who had 22 and 27.5 respectively.

No representatives

The girls, who do not have any representatives in the 16-17 age group, were sixth on 13 points.

Jonathan Newnham continued to have an excellent tournament as he dominated the boys' 13 and under category for a second straight day as he shot 75 ahead of Puerto Rico's Fredrick Thon and Jose Alberto Hernandez Rodriguez of the Dominican Republic, who both shot 77.

In the boys' 16-17 age group, Jamaica's Wesley Brown, who shot 74 for the day, was second behind Puerto Rico's Robert Calvesbert, who shot par for the course at 72.

In the girls' 14-15 category, Vittoria Marley shot 84 to finish behind the Trinidad and Tobago pair of Monifa Sealy and Aleema Jack, who shot 77 and 74, respectively.
