JGA to name 10 players for Carib Junior Champs

The team to represent Jamaica at the annual Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships will be named at the end of the month following the Jamaica Golf Association's hosting of basic- and intermediate-level tournaments at the Constant Spring Golf Club last week.

In the advanced intermediate level, Jason Lewis (49) took first place, Sam Bupuckdee (51) was second and Andrew Josephs and Joseph Black (52) tied for third place.

Basic intermediate level

Danzelle Knight (23) placed first in the basic intermediate level, while Luke Chin (23) placed second and Kristin Chin (24) was third.

In the level one basic drive chip and putt category, first place went to Aaron Alexander. Austin Levy took second place and Robin Hughsam completed the top three.

At the National Golf Trials held in March, the winners of the age division also included Rochelle Prince (46) and Shaneil McLoud (86), who participated in the girls' under-13 and girls' 14-15 divisions respectively.

Wesley Brown (73) and Shantoy Lawrence (77) won the boys' 16-17 and 14-15 divisions, respectively.

National representative

Five-time national representative, 13-year-old Jonathan Newnham, carded an impressive sub-par round of 63 strokes in the 13-and-under age group to set the course record for this division.

Following an evaluation of their performances, 10 players will be chosen to represent Jamaica at the championships scheduled to take place in Trinidad and Tobago July 6-11.
