Mullings clocks wind-aided 9.91

ZARAGOZA, Spain (CMC)

Jamaican Steve Mullings sped to a fast wind-assisted victory at the 4th Gran Premio International track and field meeting on Saturday night.

Racing with a following wind of +3.7 metres per second, Mullings dashed to 9.91 seconds in a thrilling victory by one-hundredth of a second over American Joshua Johnson with fellow Jamaican Clement Campbell third.

Johnson and Campbell were both clocked at 9.92 seconds and Jamaica's 2005 World Champion-ship silver medallist Michael Frater was a mere 0.03 seconds further behind in fourth.

Portugal's Nigerian-born Francis Obikwelu, the reigning Olympic and World Championship silver medallist, was sixth in 9.99. The wind was way above the limit of +2 metres per second.

Mozambique's veteran and multiple World Champion Maria Mutola collected another win on the European circuit when she clocked one minute 58.21 seconds to dominate the women's 800 metres, pushing Morocco's World and Olympic silver medallist Hasna Benhassi (1:59.31) into second spot.
