Meadowvale stamp out Dragon's fire

MEADOWVALE defeated Dragon for the second time this season in the Wray & Nephew skittles competition, beating the former champions 7-4 in a home match in Portmore.

When both teams met in the first round of the competition on April 22, Meadowvale journeyed into the Dragon's den at Giltress Street in Rollington Town and came out victorious.

Meadowvale won 6-2 on that occasion and having beaten them again in the return round, they clearly have what it takes to cool the dragon.

In contrast, the other Portmore-based team, The Dip, suffered one of their worst defeat in the history of local skittles when they were blanked 11-0 by Cherry's Strikers in a home match at Gregory Park.

The Dip have been going through a bad patch lately and need to take a leaf out of neighbour's Meadowvale book - don't give up without a fight.

In other matches played on Sunday, Rowe's Strikers maintained sole leadership of Zone 'A' in the competition when they defeated Waltham Strikers 8-3 in an away match.

Defending champion Eastern All-Stars also won at home, outclassing Galaxy 8-3 at 113 Windward Road. It was sweet revenge for Eastern, having lost 6-4 to Galaxy in an away match at 21a Red Hills Road on April 22. That is still regarded as the upset of the season.

Meanwhile, eliminations in the JET-sponsored singles championship continued at Mystix Sports Bar, Hagley Park Road last Sunday. Meadowvale's P. Mais and C. Blake from House of Peace are locked at 1-1 in a best of three playoff which will be decided tomorrow.

Also locked are M. Ellis and former singles champion Keith Barrett, both from Eastern All-Stars; clubmates Fitzroy 'Paul' Blair (another former singles champion) and M. Prendergast; L. Rose and R. Facey and The Dip's pair of V. Wilson and Harry Buchanan.

But the big singles clash tomorrow pits former champion Nehemiah 'Fatta' Henry from Eastern All-Stars against the classy Emmanuel Munda from Cherry's Strikers.
