Top ranked players for badminton tournament

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

MANY OF Jamaica's top ranked players are expected to return to the island for the 11th staging of the Mayberry Investments Ltd Racketeers badminton tournament which serves off this weekend at the Constant Spring Club.

Charles Pyne, Bradley Graham and Olympian Nigella Saunders are all expected to feature in the tournament which makes its return to the badminton circuit after a one-year break.

Pyne will travel from Canada where he has been attending the University of Montreal while Graham has already returned from Germany where he looks to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

However, the top seeds will not be in action until next weekend when the A, B and Open categories will take place. This weekend's play will see the island's local talent compete in the C and D categories.

Next weekend's leg of the tournament will also see some of Cuba's top players in action. The players will use the tournament as warm-up before they depart for the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games which begin on July 14.
