St Andrew, JC top U-15 Champs

ST. ANDREW High and Jamaica College emerged winners of the Cable and Wireless-sponsored Under-15 All-Island Badminton Championships held at the Bishop Gibson High School in Mandeville on Saturday

In the boys' category, Jamaica College defeated Campion College 3-1 for their first grasp of the Cable and Wireless trophy. In games played, Delsang Lue Taim (JC) def. Kyle Wong Chew Onn (CC) 15-13, 15-12, Stephen Ellis (JC) def. Claude Reynolds (CC) 15-2, 15-6.

In doubles action, the pair of Stephen Ellis and Leon Lobban (JC) defeated Michael Lee and Gavin Lau (CC) 15-8, 15-9 while Michael Lee and Kyle Wong Chew Onn (CC) def. Gareth Henry and Leon Lobban (JC) 15-8, 15-10 to rescue a point for Campion.

GIRLS' BATTLE

The girls' category saw defending Champions St. Andrew High retain their title by defeating Bishop Gibson High by a similar score of 3-1. The action saw Monique Hyman (SA) def Christina Naylor (BG) 11-0, 11-6 while her teammate Jessica Whyte was def by Ariel Matthews (BG) 13-10, 4-11, 6-11.

In doubles play, Monique Hyman and Kamloi Chin (SA) def. Ariel Matthews & Christina Naylor (BG) 17-16, 15-6 while Jessica Whyte and Kamloi Chin closed out for the defending champions by beating Tara Plummer and Natalie Thompson of Bishop Gibson 15-7, 15-12. In the girls third-place play-off St. Hugh's defeated Westwood 3-0.
