August Town, Humble Lions set to qualify

Humble Lions will host Brazil at York Community Centre at 4 p.m., while August Town will travel to Jarrett Park where they will face an all but eliminated Wadadah in a 5 p.m. encounter.

Wins in the reverse fixtures on the opening day of the season got both teams off to positive starts. While Humble Lions clipped Brazil 1-0 at Drax Hall, August Town beat Wadadah 2-0 at the UWI Bowl, and identical wins in today's games will see the leaders move to an unassailable 10 points with two games remaining. Wadadah and Brazil have one point apiece from three games.

However, with August Town having already witnessed a comfortable lead slip away late in KSAFA Super League season, coach Calvert Fitzgerald is unwilling to leave anything to chance.

"In the Super League we could have wrapped it up with four games remaining, but after a loss and a draw we were forced to take it to the last day. We don't intend to go through that again," Fitzgerald said.

"We don't want to leave anything to time and chance, we need it out of the way as soon as possible, we need to put things in the bag," he added.

A 3-0 loss to Brazil at home in the last round would suggest that perhaps the Wadadah team has given up the ghost, after taking only one point at home in the previous match.

'Glad for that win on the road'

At York Community Centre, Humble Lions will certainly be favoured to grab all three points, having taken the corresponding fixture on the road.

"We were glad for that win on the road. A win is always good to have under your belt, but we realise today is a different day, a different game and the work starts all over," said Humble Lions coach, Anthony Pringle.

"We always take things one game at a time. One of the hardest things to do is to guard against complacency, but we have talked with the players and expect them to remain focused," he added.

"I can't even state how important it is for us to get things settled from as early as this game," he said.
