August Town stay on target for DPL

Kingston and St Andrew Football Association team August Town made another bold move towards qualification for next season's Digicel Premier League, following a come-from-behind 4-1 over St Ann's Brazil in the play-off encounter at the UWI Bowl yesterday.

The Calvert Fitzgerald-coached unit, which, in winning, moved to the top of the standings with seven points, fell behind in the third minute following a close-range effort from Aldane Rattigan.

But thanks to goals from Nicholas McCreath (7th), Ezekiel Shaw (40th) and substitutes Donovan Bernard (77th) and Akeem Thenstead (80th), they rebounded to post their second win in three matches, at the end of the first round of the four-team elimination.

Two teams will qualify.

"I was confident going into the match that we had what it takes to win, and I am very pleased with the overall result," said Fitzgerald, whose charges defeated St James' Wadadah in their first match and drew with Clarendon's Humble Lions in their second.

"It now puts us in a good position as should we win one more match, it will put us back into the big league," he added.

The day's other match-up between Wadadah and Humble Lions at Jarrett Park was incomplete at press time.

Critical mistakes

Brazil's coach, David Price, expressed regret at the outcome, but said he was confident his team could rally in the return round and qualify.

"Some critical mistakes were made at crucial times and it cost us the game," said Price, whose team has one point.

"We started well; however, unfortunately, we could not hold on. But it's not yet curtains for us as we have now seen all the teams and have three more matches and know that if we play to our potential we can still qualify," Price explained.
