Jamaica to set up training camp in Nuremburg

The Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) has confirmed the city of Nuremburg, Germany, will host Jamaica's athletes for a one-week training camp ahead of the World Athletic Championships.

Over the years, Jamaica have had camps leading into major Championships and this year will be no different.

Howard Aris, president of the JAAA, said Nuremburg was identified, but all details have not yet been finalised.

"The JAAA executive will make a final decision as soon as all arrangements are in place," said Aris. "We have to get the cost and find a sponsor."

Discussions held

Aris said he held discussions with top coaches Stephen Francis and Glen Mills, along with Donald Quarrie, the team's technical leader, and sponsors Puma.

"All parties have agreed," Aris said.

Over the years, Francis had expressed concerns over the timing of the camps. However, he seems pleased this time.

"While the camps does facilitate things like relay practice, at the same time it takes away from the kind of training we do two weeks before," Francis explained.

"I don't mind a camp which is five or so days before the games because by that time we'd have finished training and we'd just be wrapping up," he added. "If it's longer than that, it's a big problem for us."
