Performer of the week: MVP Taylor makes her mark

Most Valuable Player of the 2009 Jean Pierre Under-16 Caribbean Netball Championships, Deneen Taylor, with her trophies.

Jamaica's Under-16 goal shooter Deneen Taylor has left her mark on the just concluded Jean Pierre Caribbean Netball Championships which ended on Wednesday night at the National Indoor Sports Complex.

Taylor, who scored 180 goals from 224 attempts, was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and most accurate shooter of the tournament.

Her performance at the championships lifted the junior Sunshine Girls to their third straight hold on the regional crown and their eighth title overall. They also finished the championships as the only unbeaten team with six consecutive victories. They thrashed Trinidad and Tobago 45-15 in their final game.

Second place trophy

Barbados won the second place trophy, following their easy 58-5 win over Guyana. Trinidad and Tobago were third.

Taylor, who attends Holmwood Technical, was delighted with her awards.

"I am really feeling happy to be the MVP because I have worked really hard for this," said the 16-year-old.
