Watson powers UTech past JDF

Former champions University of Technology (UTech) defeated host and defending champions, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), 3-1 in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/Northwest Development division two Club league on Saturday.

In the day's other game, Pembroke Hall edged Hy-Performance 3-2. And when action resumed on Sunday, Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club I beat newcomers Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club II, 3-2, in a division four match-up.

In the UTech-JDF encounter at Up Park Camp, Kane Watson won two matches for UTech as he outlasted Christopher Marsh 3-2 and beat Phillip Drummond 3-1, as Paulton Madden got by Altamont Henry 3-1, for UTech's third victory.

Crushed former champion

Drummond crushed former national champion Ludlow Bailey, who has been out of action for over two years, 3-0, to pull one back for the soldiers.

Meanwhile, in the Hy-Performance-Pembroke Hall division one clash at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre, Sean Wallace beat Don-Walker Petinaud 3-1, Clive Johnson defeated Simon Tomlinson 3-1 and Richardo Lee outplayed Petinaud 3-1, for Pembroke Hall's three victories.

National representative Emani McPherson crushed both Lee and Wallace by similar 3-0 margins for Hy-Performance's two wins.

At the Kirkvine Sports Club, Mario Wisdom beat Jaymeon Jones 3-1 and Giancarlo Grant trounced Dwayne Gayle 3-0 in singles matches.

Wisdom and Jamie Allen overpowered Gayle and Antonio Bailey 3-0 in doubles to secure the third win for Windalco Kirkvine SC I.

Meanwhile, Oral Wiltshire outscored Shalik Walker 3-1 and Sanjay Sibblies stopped Tyrone Blake 3-1, to account for Windalco Kirkvine SC II's two wins.
