Fraser nets winner in season finale

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico (CMC):

Jamaican midfielder Sean Fraser hit the winning goal for Miami FC as they tagged Atlanta Silverbacks 1-0 in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division on Sunday.

Fraser struck an opportunistic goal early in the second half to close off another moderate season for their home fans at Tropical Park Stadium.

Miami and Atlanta ended the season joint ninth - second from bottom on 34 points.

Fraser netted his second goal of the season in the 53rd minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse by Atlanta, who had the Trinidad and Tobago international Brent Sancho in their line up.

Goalkeeper Felipe Quintero was troubled by a high, awkward back pass that was played to him.

The Miami striker Alex Afonso rushed forward to pressure Quintero and as the ball ricocheted off the crossbar, Fraser was perfectly positioned for the rebound and scored easily.

In another weekend game, the Puerto Rico Islanders and Montreal Impact drew 0-0 at Montreal's Saputo Stadium.

Haitian Fabrice Noel and Nigel Henry were in the line up for regular season champions PR Islanders.
