Beijing Games may be 'Ver's' last

VERONICA Campbell-Brown, Olympic 200m and world 100m champion, said she is determined to win the double in Beijing because this may be her last Olympic Games.

Campbell-Brown was asked by Donald Quarrie, the 1976 Olympic Games 200m champion, who was the athletes' liaison at Saturday night's Jamaica International Invitational meet, which event's gold she most coveted.

Determined to win

"I am determined to win both," Campbell-Brown said. "I will be 26 in a couple weeks, so this may be my last Olympics. I am just going to give it my all and keep working hard towards it. I am looking forward to compete in Beijing and my main focus is on that double."

Campbell, the 2001 World Junior sprint double champion, celebrates her 26th birthday on May 15.

Among top three

As to why this could be her last Olympic Games, Campbell-Brown, who finished second in the 200m at last year's World Championships, a few days after winning the 100m in a close battle, said: "If I am 29, 30 and not winning or in the top three, why keep on running?"

"I won't settle for less (top three). I feel like if I am training and am not among the best, or the best, it isn't worth it. I don't know what will happen, so I just have to make use of this year."
