Five-game NCB series under way

 
The first tournament in the National Commercial Bank (NCB) Capital Markets Llockett Mc-Gregor Junior Tennis five-game series kicked off at the Liguanea Club on the weekend.

Approximately 90 of the country's junior players participated in the boys' and girls' age group categories 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

Roger Lyn defeated James Cruz 8-3 in the Boys' Under-10 to take home the coveted title.

In the semi-finals, Lyn defeated Kyle Martin 8-0 to book his place in the final, while Cruz defeated Jacob Bicknell 8-5.

In the Boys' Under-12 category, Simon Levy defeated Simon Ho-On 8-3 and Andrew Bicknell beat Dylan Levy 8-7. Bicknell defeated Levy 8-6 in the final.

Nicholas Chung defeated Nicholas Chambers 6-1, 7-6, 7-4 to capture the Boys' Under-14 title and Randy Phillips got the better of Jordan Harris 6-2, 4-6, 7-4 to cop the boys' Under-16 crown.

The Boys Under-18 final saw Matthew Rodriguez defeating Mackoy Malcolm 7-5, 5-5 (retired). Rodriquez defeated Winfred Winebeer 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 and Malcolm beat Andrew Burrell 6-4, 6-2 to get to the final.

Girls events

In the girls events, Shaneka Knight defeated Stephanie Schwab 6-0, 6-1 and Shantal Blackwood defeated Danielle Gore 6-0, 6-1 to go through to the final. In the final, Knight beat Blackwood 6-4, 6-1.

In the Girl's Under-16 event, Nordian Campbell beat Stacy Reid 6-0, 6-0 and Serena Harjani defeated Christina Benjamin 7-6 (4) 6-2 to face off in the final.

Harjani was crowned champion after trailing Campbell 1-2 (retired), to take home the Under 16 title.

Shellita Haughton defeated Michel Ann Denton 8-7 (7-2) and Phadria Kepple defeated Alex Bicknell 7-5, 4-2 (default) in the girl's Under-14 semi-final. Kepple defeated Haughton 7-5, 4-2 (retired) in the final.

The next in the series of competitions will take place from June 21-22.
