MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CMC):

Mexico completed a 5-0 shut-out of Jamaica in their Americas Group II Davis Cup tennis play-off at the Rafael Osuna Stadium on Sunday.

Already with a winning 3-0 lead entering the last day, the Mexicans maintained their dominance and captured both remaining singles matches to complete the rout.

Miguel Gallardo-Valles defeated Chris Lawson 6-0, 6-3 to make it 4-0 and Bruno Echagaray stopped Brandon Burke 6-2, 6-0 also in straight sets for the 5-0 scoreline.

In the opening singles on Friday, Echagaray had beaten Damar Johnson 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 and Santiago Gonzalez got past Damion Johnson 6-4, 6-2, 6-0.

Gonzalez and Luis-Manuel Flores then linked up to defeat Damar and Damion Johnson 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 in the doubles match on Saturday for the winning series lead.

In the other ties completed on Sunday, Venezuela beat Netherlands Antilles 4-1, Dominican Republic crushed Guatemala 5-0, and Paraguay outgunned Bahamas 4-1.

The series continues in July with Jamaica facing the Netherlands Antilles and Guatemala meeting The Bahamas to maintain their Group II positions. The losers will be relegated to Americas Group III play.

Mexico will tackle Venezuela and the Dominican Republic play Paraguay also in July with the winners to earn promotion to Americas Group I.
