Successes crown Wilson as Caribbean 'king'

Jamaica's Brandon Wilson followed up his win at the CMMB Caribbean Open Chess Championships held in Trinidad and Tobago with an emphatic win at the Sagicor Open Junior Chess Championship held in Barbados last week.

With this win, Wilson has secured the unofficial title of top junior chess player in the English-speaking Caribbean.

He scored an unbeaten 6.5 from seven games to win the Sagicor event, in which championship honours has eluded him for the last three years.

On his way to securing top spot, Wilson turned back the top junior players from both Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago. Included among his victims was defending champion and Barbados' top junior player, Martyn Del Castilho, who has been champion for the last three years.

Onaje La Mont, who is Jamaica's reigning National Junior Champion, also competed in the event. Though he finished unbeaten, he drew too many games and ended up scoring only five points, which left him tied for fourth.
