Johnson for non-title bout

MIAMI, Florida (CMC):

JAMAICA'S FORMER world light heavyweight boxing champion, Glen Johnson, is set to return to the ring later this month to face American veteran Fred Moore in a non-title bout.

The contest is set for July 27 at the Sheraton Miami Mart Hotel and is the first of four cards being planned this year by long-time Miami-based promoter Richard Dobal, who has formed a new boxing promotional company called Bad Dog Productions.

The July 27 card will be co-promoted by Johnson's handlers Warriors Seminole Boxing and Dobal has listed his other fight dates as August 24, September 21 and November 21.

The 38-year-old Johnson, who is slated for an International Boxing Federation (IBF) title fight against British champion Clinton Woods later this year, has a ring record of 45 wins (30 knockouts) against 11 losses and two draws.

Johnson, the 2004 World Fighter of the Year, and Woods have fought three title bouts, all in Woods' native England and have split two decisions and fought the third match to a draw.

Moore, who has lost five of his past six fights, has a current ring log of 30 wins (27 knockouts) against six losses.

The Johnson-Moore contest will be headliner of the July 27 card billed 'Ring of Fire' that will also feature the 12-1 welterweight Damian Frias.

Tickets for the card range from US$20 to US$100.

In Johnson's last fight, he stopped veteran Montell Griffin in the 11th round of their IBF title eliminator in Hollywood, Florida.
