Pollock launches 3-on-3 tourney

Carl Spence, Gleaner Writer

FORMER NATIONAL representative and European professional basketball star Richard Pollack, in association with the Jamaica Basketball Association (JABA), has launched the staging of a Lack Rocker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament to be hosted at the Scotia Bank Links Court in Liguanea.

The tournament, which should comprise about 100 teams and cover age groups from 10 to over 40 was announced at a press launch held at the Eden Garden complex in St. Andrew yesterday.

The three-on-three compe-tition will run from July 7-8 with teams competing in three major divisions.

There will be a junior division, which includes teams competing for trophies and special prizes in four different age groups - 10-12, 13-14, 15- 16, and 17-18.

The adults division will see teams from age groups 19-21, 22-25 and 26-29 battling for trophies and $30,000 in cash prize for each winner.

The cash allotment will be the same incentive offered to the champions from the 30 and over division including teams aged from 30-34, 35-39 and 40 and over. Ten teams will be selected for each age group with a maximum number of four players per team.

'Giving back to sport'

Tournament director Pollack said he was keen to give back to the sport that offered him a world of opportunities.

"I see the Lack Rocker tournament as a means of giving back to the sport that has given me a lot," Pollack said.

JABA president Marland Nattie praised Pollack for his efforts in adding to the development of the sport in the country. Other guests at the launch were women's national basketball captain Oberon Pitterson and director of Super-Plus food stores Richard Chen.
