Wolmer's blank Campion 2-0 in schoolgirls hockey

Wolmer's Girls defeated Campion College 2-0 in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) girls' Under-16 competition at the Mona Hockey field yesterday.

Ameka Livingston scored both goals for Wolmer's who outplayed their opponents throughout the game.

Livingston opened the scoring after ten minutes when she fired home a powerful point-blank range shot past goalkeeper Audra Hart. Four minutes later Livingston doubled her team's lead when she converted a cross from teammate Shelone Reid.

Campion's best chance in the period fell to Danielle Smalling on the stroke of half time, but her close range shot was well saved by goalkeeper Chevelle Morgan.

Wolmer's dominated the second half, but were denied by excellent goalkeeping from Hart. Monique Kildare, Kamoya Graham and Danielle Samuels were all guilty of missing clear chances for their team.

Pleased coach

Norris Davis, coach of Wolmer's, said he was very pleased with his team's performance.

"I am very satisfied. A victory is always satisfactory but one of our problems is that we don't have enough people coming out to training. Those who have been at training performed well today," said Davis.

"We can only look to improve for the rest of the season, because everyone will realise from this game that what we do in training works so I am very optimistic that we can put up a good showing in the remaining matches," he added.

Devon Reid, coach of Campion said: "We lost the game, but I really can't complain considering that most of the players are new toeleven-a-side hockey. But I expect them to improve over time," Reid said.
