Munro make it two in a row

MUNRO COLLEGE won their second consecutive Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) boys' Under-19 championship when they edged Wolmer's 1-0 in the final at the Mona Hockey Field on Friday. Christopher Atkinson scored the decisive goal in the 20th minute. Munro dominated the early proceedings and were rewarded when Atkinson fired home a well-placed cross from Kyle McChalleck past goalkeeper Odane McIntyre. Five minutes later, McChalleck came close to doubling his team's lead but his long-range shot was just wide of the target. Wolmer's best chance in the period came on the stroke of half time, but Shawn Sybblis's point-blank shot was spectacularly saved by custodian Verely Reid. Munro continued their dominance in the second period but poor shooting from the likes of Gerren Rowe and Oshane Hasley let them down. Coach happy Fitzroy Rowe, coach of Munro, was a happy man after the game. "I guess one has to be elated. I mean we are back at the top where we belong," Rowe said. "It's the last game - you don't have to worry about another one and the silverware will be back in our trophy cupboard," he said. "We are really feeling very happy. "I don't think it is one of the prettiest games we have ever seen but it is a victory. The margin should have been much wider but the win is enough and we can settle for that," Rowe said. Norris Davis, coach of Wolmer's, said: "Munro dominated the game. They are the technically more proficient team and that showed today. "There wasn't much in terms of strategy, it was a matter of who made the least mistakes and Munro made less than us," he said. In the third-place playoff, Mona defeated Jamaica College (JC) 2-0.
