Munro make perfect start

Defending champions Munro College will be hunting their third consecutive victory in the 2007 Inter- Secondary Schools Sports Association/ Jamaica Hockey Federation boys Under-19 competition when they square off against Kingston College at the Mona Astro Turf on Thursday. The Munrovians defeated Mona 3-0 on Friday to maximise their points tally, following an opening round 2-0 win over Campion College. In the match-up against Mona, Munro dominated the early proceedings and were rewarded in the 17th minute when Javier Dayes fired a goal past keeper Raheem Parchment, after benefitting from a through pass made by Shane Roberts. They kept that advantage into the half-time break but 10 minutes after the interval, Christopher Atkinson doubled Munro's lead when he scored from a penalty corner. The pass was made by Andrew Bell. Mona's best chance in the second period fell to Kemar Mitchell, whose close range shot five minutes from time went wide of the target. Having missed that chance to reduce the deficit and give themselves a lifeline, Mona were put completely out of the contest when Oshane Hasley scored two minutes from the final whistle by scoring a penalty. Fitzroy Reid, coach of Munro, said he was pleased with his team's performance. "We played well. I think that we held our concentration throughout the game because Mona is one of the top teams." Rowe added, "I am pleased with these three goals, although we could have scored some more goals. I think that as the season goes on my team will get better." McCauley McIntosh, coach of Mona, said: "We played pretty well but our fitness caused us to lapse and we lost our concentration which caused Munro to score three goals against us." In other matches played the previous day, Campion rebounded from their loss to Munro by defeating Wolmer's Boys' 2-0 and St. Andrew Technical High School and Excelsior played to a 0-0 draw.
