Surfers aim for smooth finish

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

Going into the second National Open Surf Contest this season the competition for top spots is already tight.

The Makka Surf Beach in Yallahs, St. Thomas will be the location and Luke Williams has issued the challenge for a trailing pack, which includes defending champion Icah Wilmot, when the surfers go out at 8:00 a.m.

In the first event in January Williams outdid regular number one Icah Wilmot in a close contest, but will be tested by the youngster challenger today.

Williams will also be tested by two top under-16 juniors who have joined this year's tour.

Shane Simmonds and Ackeam Phillips finished an impressive third and fourth respectively last time out and will be trying to better their performance.

Joel Lawrence and Inilek Wilmot make up the six who made it to the finals at the last event.

Jamaica's top female surfers will also be competing for national honours. Series leader Danielle O'Hayon will be on the hunt for her second win after her victory in the first event at Lighthouse last month.

Imani Wilmot who currently sits in second will be looking to break Danielle's winning streak and grab the 1000 points on offer for the premier spot.
