Jamaica's top junior surfers to take on world's best

THE JAMAICA SURFING Association (JSA) has selected an eleven-member team to represent the island at the 2005 World Junior Surfing Championships (WJSC) to be held in Huntington Beach, California from October 8-16.

The WJSC is the premier junior event on the world's amateur surfing calendar.

Official invitation

Members of the local team were named after the JSA received an official invitation from the world governing body for surfing, the International Surfing Association (ISA).

Jamaica's youngsters are looking forward to doing their best at this stellar event and top under-19 and under-16 surfers from the local junior surfing championship series will form the national junior surfing team.

The proposed team is:

Boys Under 18:

1. Icah Wilmot (captain)

2. Tristan English.

3. Junior Hibberts

4. Alex Marley

Girls Under 18

1. Imani Wilmot

2. Elim Beckford

3. Noelle Jackson

Boys Under 16

1. Ackeam Phillips

2. Shane Simmons

3. Omar Jacks

4. Eneson Lightbourn

The WJSC is held every year and is hosted by a different member nation of the ISA. Surfing America, the newly elected United States national governing body for surfing (www.surfingamerica.org), is on a drive to maximise its exposure and publicity with the hosting of the event this year.
