Portmore join semi-finalists

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

PORTMORE UNITED yesterday stayed in contention for a sixth football title this season after joining Wadadah, Holland Police and Arlington in the semi-finals of the Red Stripe Light Beach Futbol Tournament.

The locals will play guest teams the United States and Argentina in the semi-finals.

Portmore eased their way into the semi-finals after an easy 5-2 victory over Sandy Bay at the Hellshire Beach.

Los Perfectos fell short of the semis even though they beat Holland Police 6-3 in a top-of-the-table clash to decide the semi-finalist from their group. Holland advanced on a one-goal advantage in goal difference.

Wadadah, similar to Holland, had to wait until yesterday before they could be sure of their place in the semis after beating Waterhouse 8-5, who were knocked out in what was their first defeat of the tournament.

SOLID PERFORMANCES

Arlington have surprised a few teams already in this tournament and continue to push out solid performances after holding on to beat Invaders 6-4, qualifying for the semis ahead of Boys' Town, who were breathing down their necks.

Boys' Town had the biggest win of the day for the second time in a row when they beat Arnett Gardens 7-0 in an attempt to oust Arlington, who had beaten them in the first game of the season.

In the day's other games, Harbour View got their first win of the season with a walk-over after Reno failed to show for the game, which was only of academic importance.

Constant Spring weren't as fortunate as Harbour View and exited the tournament without winning a game, losing 7-4 to St. George's. Village beat Rivoli 7-4.

The semi-finals will be played at Long Beach Park in Negril this weekend and begins with an exhibition game between the United States and Argentina this Saturday.
