Clan Carthy strike Dinthill off base

CLAN CARTHY on Saturday unseated Dinthill Technical to be crowned kings of the Jamaica Amateur Softball Association senior schoolboy championship after a 15-11 win in the final at St. Hugh's High School.

Jerome Manning, with four runs, led the way for the east Kingston side, while Andrew Bedward of Dinthill, who scored three runs, was the top scorer for the losing team. The defending champions, who took first strike, got off to a shaky start and never really recovered as pitcher Andrew Eccles produced four strike out. They were only able to manage two runs in their first two innings, this compared to Clan Carthy's eight.

Dinthill's best performance with the bat came in their third innings when they scored four runs, but this was bettered by Clan Carthy, who scored five.

Despite only managing to score two runs in their last four innings, Clan Carthy had the measure of the opposition who scored five runs in the last four innings, thus enabling them to triumph in a final that failed to produce a single home run.
