Jamaica Perform Well in the Florida Open

Jamaican shooters shot themselves to outstanding performances in the 6th Annual Florida Open Championship February 20 - 24, 2004 in Frost Proof, Florida. The competition featured shooters from countries namely Guatemala, Costa Rica, United States of America, Puerto Rico, Australia, Jamaica among others. The Jamaica Rifle Association (JRA) was represented by 9 members. Ronald Brown Jr. (Practical Pistol captain of the Jamaica Rifle Association) placed 1st in Masters Open category and 6th Overall at the Florida Open. In the Open Category, John Lee placed 8th in the B Class, Peter Hibbert placed 1st in the D class, Peter Ferguson placed 4th in the B class while Peter Shim placed 10th in the B class. In the Limited Category, Ryan Gourzong placed 12th in the C Class while Richard Wayne Chung placed 2nd in the D Class. Patrick Evelyn shot in the limited category in the master class and placed 9th overall. There were approximately 370 shooters overall, 110 in the Open category and approximately 130 in the Limited category The competition ran for 2 days with a total of 10 courses/stages with amount of rounds being equal to approximately 300 rounds. The main attraction however were the Grand Master Champion Eric Graffel The JRA found the competition useful because it was an IPSC / USPSA sanctioned match as well as a building ground for the new members and training for top class shooters and high ranking US based shooters. The JRA hopes to soon have the highest ranking shooters in the region and aims to excel in IPSC shooting and gear up for the World Shoot XIV to be held in Ecuador 2005.
