St Mary edge Blauwearie

 
St Mary All-Age captured their fourth consecutive hold on the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) Primary and All-Age title, with an exciting 3-2 win over Blauwearie Primary of Westmoreland at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre on Thursday.

Each team comprised three boys and two girls and the championship was already decided after three matches, as St Mary won the first three games for a 3-0 lead.

In the first match, Rushane Carr beat Alex Lee 11-5, 11-8, 11-5 (3-0); Maeve Dobney outplayed Simone Smith 11-7, 11-5, 11-13, 11-3 (3-1) in the second and Michael Valentine outlasted Derrick Leslie 8-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8 (3-2) in the third.

National cadet player, Kimesha Williams, crushed Shanice Williams 11-7, 11-5, 11-7 (3-0) in the fourth, and Jason Ennis trounced Gary Russell 11-3, 11-7, 11-5 (3-0) in the fifth to record Blauwearie's consolation wins.

In the individual age-group events, Michael Valentine of St Mary outscored schoolmate Gary Russell 11-6, 11-7, 11-6, 5-11, 8-11, 13-11 (4-2) in the final to take the boys under-15 crown.

Delano Patterson and Adrian Williamson, both of St Mary earned the third-place trophies.

In the boys under-13 final, Jason Ennis of Blauwearie eased past Rushane Carr of St Mary 11-4, 11-7, 11-6 (3-0) for the title.

Losing semi-finalists

Randy Reynolds and Shevon Wilson, both of St Mary, were the losing semi-finalists.

In the girls under-13, Kimesha Williams of Blauwearie defeated Shanice Williams of St Mary 11-5, 12-10, 11-6 (3-0) in the final to lift the crown. Losing semi-finalists Maeve Dobney of St Mary and Simone Smith of Blauwearie shared third.

Eric Hibbert of St Mary clipped Rohan Willie of Blauwearie 11-9, 7-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7 (3-2) in the under-10 final.

The male teachers event was won by Andy Smith of St Mary, who defeated Dwight Berry of Blauwearie 11-9, 11-4, 7-11, 13-11 (3-1) in the final.
