Captain saves the day

Boys' Town notched up their fourth consecutive win in the Digicel National Premier League yesterday when they clipped Village United 1-0 at Collie Smith Drive.

Captain Michael Campbell, with an 87th-minute strike, sent Village crashing to their third successive defeat.

This was Campbell's second goal in as many games as his lone strike also gave his team victory in their last match against Waterhouse.

Good feeling

"It is a good feeling, knowing that I am leading from the front, and to have scored the winning goal, it is a good feeling," Campbell said.

Boys' Town should have taken the lead as early as the 18th minute when George Vernal's mishit almost turned into an excellent pass to Peter Keys on the back post, but he failed to get his foot to the ball.

Boys' Town dominated possession throughout the game and created numerous chances, which they failed to convert. Village United's best shot was actually aimed at their own goal, when Ladale Richie attempted a powerful clearance but only succeeded in kicking straight at his goal, forcing his goalkeeper to pull off a good save.

Appalling finish

Andrew Price, the Boys' Town coach, believes his team has to work on their finishing.

"We made hard work of it but we got three points at home and that is always important," Price said. "The finishing is appalling, but we have to continue to work at it. the good thing is that we are getting ourselves in goal-scoring positions," he added.

Cassman Williams, coach of Village United, said Boys' Town deserved the three points. "Today wasn't one of our better games. we have been plagued with injuries all season," Williams said. "Boys' Town created a whole lot of chances and eventually they won the game 1-0, and I think they deserved it based on chances created."
