George's, JC draw in another 'battle of the blues'

Calabar beat Wolmer's 2-0 to keep their hopes alive while Jamaica College (JC) and St George's battled to a 1-1 draw in another tight contest, as action in Group One of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup continued at the Constant Spring Sports Complex yesterday.

In the second game of the day's double-header, a repeat of the Walker Cup final and last year's Manning Cup final, JC and St George's were once again almost inseparable.

McKauly Tulloch scored the game's opening goal in the 46th minute to the delight of the spectators, but Ashani Walker equalised to secure a share of the points.

JC coach Alfred Henry hinted the result was an acceptable one for his team, stating that he can "never be disappointed when my players went out and give their all".

Neville 'Bertis' Bell, who is guiding the defending champions, also believed it was a good game.

"A good game ... congrats to JC, they played well and we also played well. It was a good schoolboy game."

The game was action-packed from as early as the first minute when a long-range shot went close to give JC the lead.

In the curtain-raiser, a game that lacked spark, 10-man Calabar scored in either half for the game's only bright moments. Akiel Barrett (27th) and Richard Edite (68th) scored for Calabar, who had their goalkeeper Chevon Powell given marching orders in the 80th minute.

At the end of two rounds of matches in Group One, JC and St George's are on four points each, Calabar three and Wolmer's not yet off the mark.
