Waterford turn tables on Norman Manley

Waterford High recorded a hard-fought but sweet 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Norman Manley in Group Two of the quarter-final round of the urban area ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup senior schoolboy football league competition at the Constant Spring Complex yesterday.

Oshane Greeves (56th), Kemar Williams (45th) and captain Ricardo Williams (87th) were the goalscorers for Waterford.

Lamar Thompson (30th) and Jamel Hamilton (60th) were on target Norman Manley.

Only last week Norman Manley had fought from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Waterford, then beat them on penalties to advance in the Walker Cup KO quarter-finals.

Good victory

Waterford led yesterday but this time the joy would be Waterford's.

"This is a very good victory for us because this is the quarter-finals and I feel happy to know that we have started out with a victory," said Floyd Coke, Waterford's coach.

"I think we could have done better because our defenders are not as potent I would like them to be and we just have to work on this," Coke said.

Paul Edwards, assistant coach of Norman Manley, said: "We were a bit flat in our defence and this caused us to give up three easy goals," said Edwards. "The Waterford team was much quicker to the ball than us and they also dominated a lot of the ball possession," Edwards added.

Meanwhile, the second encounter between Bridgeport and Eltham High was called off at half-time because of a water-logged pitch, which was caused by heavy rains. The score was 0-0.
