BNS net Senior League title

Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS) capped off a fine season in the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Business House competition by winning the Senior League title with an easy 66-29 margin over Jamaica Broilers last Saturday at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

BNS were winning their third title of the season, after taking the rally and knockout competitions.

Marsha Murphy led the way for BNS with 57 goals from 69 attempts, as they recorded quarterly leads of 18-9, 37-14 and 48-20. Murphy received support from Naudia Brown, who sank nine goals from 11 tries.

"I think that we had a good season. We started training from February and we decided that we were going to play really hard, and the girls told themselves that they wanted to win everything this year," said Winston Nevers, coach of BNS.

"I think our fitness
played a big part in our success this season because I have some special drills that we used and this helped to put the players in shape for each match."

Nevers, who is also the coach of Berger Paints Super League champions Jamalco, added that they were expecting a much tougher match in the final.

"We didn't think that this game was going be so easy for us but Jamaica Broilers didn't gave us any challenge today," he said.

Anna-Kay Griffiths, with 20 goals from 24 attempts, and Lovena Parnell, with six from nine, were the leading scorers for Jamaica Broilers.

In other finals, The Gleaner won the Junior League title with a comfortable 23-12 victory over Wray and Nephew. Michelle Currey, with 15 goals from 24 attempts, and Sophia Davis, eight from 15, were the scorers for The Gleaner.

Jamaica Infrastructure Organisation won the Intermediate B title by defeating VMBS 33-21, whereas National Housing Trust captured the Intermediate A trophy with an exciting 40-35 extra-time victory over Wisynco after both teams were locked 33-33 at the end of regulation time.
