Miller pilots Melbourne to victory

West Indies spinner Nikita Miller turned in a respectable all-round performance to help defending champions Melbourne turn back the challenge of Lucas, in the top showdown of the second round of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) One-Day Championship at Derrymore Road last Saturday.

Miller, who along with the Jamaica team will leave the island tomorrow for next week's start of the regional one-day championship in Guyana, first made 46 in his team's respectable total of 241 off 46.5 overs, before returning to take 3-21, as Lucas crumbled to 194 off 49.1 overs.

Donovan Pagon, 63, and all-rounder Taffarie Williams, 35 and 4-64, best supported Miller.

Melbourne, like Manchester, Kingston and Hanover, who also recorded wins on the day, will now turn their attention to this weekend's quarter-finals.

Manchester, the two-day champions and beaten Twenty20 finalists, were led to victory at St Ann Bauxite courtesy of left-arm pacer Krishmar Santokie, 3-26, and middle-order batsman, Donovan Sinclair, 42 not out. Manchester made 149-7 off 30.3 overs, in response to St Ann's 147.

At Elgin Town, the good form of surprise Twenty20 semi-finalists Hanover continued when they ousted St Elizabeth by seven wickets. Aldane Samuels, 80, Omar Campbell, 39, and Kennar Lewis, 37, scored most runs for Hanover who, set a modest victory target of 209, achieved it for the loss of seven wickets.

St Elizabeth's total was built mainly on 96 from Davion Davidson and Shawn Findley, 45.

The Kingston-Police match-up at Elletson Road saw the visitors posting 247-6, with Brendon Nash getting 61 and Davion Johnson 54, against Marvin James, 3-37. Police, in reply, were bundled out for 174 off 39.5 overs, with Nehemiah Perry claiming 3-17.
