Caribbean Classic, Fort in domino final

Defending champions Caribbean Classic and Fort International will meet in the final of the CTL-sponsored Portmore/ St Catherine domino final at Caymanas Park on Sunday after contrasting semi-final wins at the same venue a fortnight ago. The action starts at 10:30 a.m.

Caribbean Classic (from Portmore Lane) came from way behind to whip the favourites Eagle View 300-282 in one semi-final, while Fort International (from Passagefort) crushed Ackee Pod 300-228 in the other.

Eagle View, who dominated the preliminary round of the competition by winning 21 of their 22 matches, including a home win over Classic, raced into a commanding 31-point lead in the first half, to be 24 points clear at half-time.

After the interval, Eagle View continued to assert their authority, but Caribbean Classic soon began to chip away at the lead, winning 17 straight games to tie the scores at 259. They surged ahead three points later and never looked back.

Caribbean Classic, who have beaten Fort International in four previous finals, will be gunning to win the competition for a fifth time. Jockey Shane Ellis is a member of the Fort International team.

The third place play-off between losing semi-finalists Eagle View and Ackee Pod will also be played on Sunday at Caymanas Park.

The champion team will receive $130,000, second $80,000, third $50,000 and fourth $30,000. All will receive trophies donated by CTL.

The competition is run by the Jamaica Domino Federation for which Gerald Stephens is president.
