Wolmer's, Cornwall shooting for semi-final spot

Wolmer's Boys' and Munro College will meet today to decide the last spot in the semi-finals of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/KFC all-island schoolboy basketball competition, starting at 3:30 p.m. at the National Stadium.

Both teams are hoping to join early qualifiers, Herbert Morrison, Cornwall College and St George's College, in the semis.

Working together as a unit

"We are confident because our players have been working together as a unit. They also believe in each other," said Howard Harvey, coach of Wolmer's.

Harvey added that his team's preparations have been going perfect, as they have been working on numerous tactics and the players have been responding well.

"I don't know anything about the Cornwall College team but we are going out there to play hard and focus on our type of basketball game," said Harvey.

The Heroes Circle-based Wolmer's will be depending heavily on guards, Dale Copeland and Howard Harvey Jr, and power forward Joel Small, who have played a pivotal role in their team's success this season.

Won't be complacent

Dwayne Clarke, Munro College's coach, said they won't be complacent.

"We won't be taking them lightly because they are a very dangerous team.

"However, my players are very confident and they are looking forward to this game," he said.

Clarke added: "We are coming to play a very fast-paced and attacking game because our plan is to outrun them for the entire game and once we do this then we should be able to win the game."

Junior semi-finals

Munro will rest their hopes in the hands of centre Daron Ricketts, point guard Razzach White and power forward Anton Pommells.

The junior semi-finals are set for Friday at the same venue. Jamaica College are down to face St George's College and Ardenne oppose Kingston College.
