Broughton, South Star in 20/20 clash

 
Broughton of Westmoreland and South Star of Manchester will today battle at Alpart Sports Club in St Elizabeth for the title of national community 20/20 cricket champions.

The final of the SDC National Community Cricket Competition will get under way at 1:30 p.m. between the only two unbeaten teams in the competition.

Broughton are in their second final, having been runners-up in 2006, while it is South Star's first appearance on this stage.

Summer Hill of St Ann and Yallahs of St Thomas will go head to head for third. That match is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start.

Dethroned champions Littitz/Comma Pen will tackle UTech Knights in a High Five (five overs) exhibition match at 8:30 a.m.

INSPORTS league

Sandy Bank, Fullerswood and Barbary Hall have secured semi-final spots in the Institute of Sports (INSPORTS)/Dr Christopher Tufton Primary and All-Age Schools football competition.

On Monday, Fullerswood Primary edged Hopewell Primary 3-2 at Vineyards to finish runners-up to unbeaten Sandy Bank Primary, who topped Group One with the maximum 12 points.

At Luana, Barbary Hall Primary topped Group Two with maximum points after a 2-0 win over Middle Quarters, who threw themselves a lifeline on Monday by clipping Brompton Primary 1-0 at the same venue.

CTL Portmore domino

Home teams dominated the action in last Sunday's fifth round of the CTL Portmore/St Catherine Domino League with as many as 10 of them winning.

Among them were former champions Hurricane who defeated Old Harbour Bay 300-246 in a home match at Dunbeholden.Results of other fifth-round matches are as follows: unbeaten defending champions Caribbean Classic beat High Roller 300-269, Eradication defeated New Look 300-269, Fort International whipped Colours 300-254, Old Harbour United drubbed Lime Tree 300-237, Eagle View stopped Marlie Mount 300-273, Ackee Pod beat Seamaster 300-280.

Watson Grove host Greater Portmore

Watson Grove will play hosts to Greater Portmore in a key E-Services Group International-sponsored Portmore Division Two football match at the Watson Grove playing field tomorrow, kick-off time is 1 p.m.

Watson Grove are hunting their second win in as many matches while Greater Portmore are also searching for a second victory. Both teams have four points from two games.

The Watson Grove/Greater Portmore clash is one of five games on in the league.

In the feature game at the venue at 3 p.m., Portmore Pines take on Braeton United.

Gold Club on top

Gold Club defeated Ackee Tree 300-282 on Sunday to extend their lead atop the Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) Community Domino competition.

Bejon, who were close behind the leaders, lost their match at 111B Molynes Road to Starlight, who were leading 271-266 when time ran out.

At 10 Bronstroph Square, hosts Sour Sop Strikers registered their second straight win by beating Lyn's United 300-295 while Almond Tree were awarded maximum points after Small World, for the second consecutive weekend, failed to show.

Davy, James top Chess

Camperdown sixth former Damion Davy and Stuart James of Wolmer's Boys, claimed the National Under-18 and Under-16 chess champion titles respectively at the RBTT Bank head office last weekend.

Davy registered a comfortable win over Ariel Barrett in the final round of the Championship to end on five points and take the under-18 award. Zachary Ramsay, who finished on 4.5 points, took second place in the under-18 category on tiebreak over James, who also ended on 4.5 points.

In the under-16 category, James finished a full point ahead of his nearest rival Jevonne McIntosh of Campion College, who ended on 3.5 points. Phillip Pryce of Campion College and Dontae Drummond of Ardenne high shared third place after finishing on three points each.

Oracabessa face Arsenal in final

The James Bond Beach-sponsored seven-a-side championship match will be played tomorrow at the sponsor's beach complex in Oracabessa, St Mary.

In last week's semi-finals, Oracabessa Police Youth Club scored a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the Masters team.

Keith Grant opened the scoring for the Masters in the 21st minute but Oracabessa Police hit back when Troy Scott scored in the 27th minute.

Maurice Keyes found the winner for Oracabessa in the 30th minute to seal the issue.

In the second game, a first-time touch by substitute Elcon Willis in the 18th minute gave Arsenal a 1-0 win over defending champions Race Course United.

Albion Mountain are champs

Albion Mountain are the champions of the St Mary Football Association/Captain's Bakery Knockout football competition.

In the final played last Saturday between Albion Mountain and Yellow Stars at Lynch Park, the former came away 2-1 winners.

The champions will represent the parish in the All-Island Knockout championships.
