Top players still in Kingston Beer pool tournament

Only 32 of the 112 players in the Kingston Beer/Pool Tables & Billiards Supplies Ultimate all-island singles pool tournament survived the eliminations last weekend at Hot Shots Pool Bar, 103 Constant Spring.

Among the top-line players still vying for the $75,000 first prize are former singles champions Roy Letts from Portmore's Cue Plus, Ewart Hall from Hot Shots, Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrave from Big Man Corner in Mobay, Chelsea's Calhoun Melville, as well as Brian Gold from Right Shots, Fernando Anderson from Upper Level in Mandeville, and former champion Sunil 'Termite' Kissendal, who is not attached to any team.

Kissendal had the distinction of being the only local player to win a game against world number one female player, Allison Fisher, on her visit to Jamaica two years ago.

The competition continues tomorrow at Hot Shots with Kissendal drawn to meet Hall in a big clash late in the afternoon.

This is worth going miles to see, as they are, arguably, the top players locally on their best form.

The action starts at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow at Hot Shots and continues on Sunday with the semi-finals. However, the organisers have decided to play the singles final, as well as the third-place play-off, on the weekend of December 20 and 21 at Indigo Bar and Brasserie, 120a Constant Spring Road.

The team finals will be played at the same venue that weekend, making it a grand finale.

The draw for the team quarter-finals is as follows: Georges vs unbeaten Hotta Shots, Cue Plus vs Hot Shots, unbeaten Eagle Eyes from St Mary vs Island Delight from Linstead, and Big Man Corner (unbeaten) and Kendan, both from Montego Bay.
