Meadhaven beat Rivoli United

THE BATTLE of bottom-placed teams Rivoli United and Meadhaven, both promoted Digicel Premier League outfits, produced a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind win for the latter at Constant Spring yesterday.

The win lifted Meadhaven above Rivoli to eight points from 10 games. Rivoli, who after losing their seventh game, slipped to the bottom of the 12-team standings with seven points.

Keammar Daley struck a second-half brace to cancel out strikes by Devon Hodges, who had given Rivoli a 2-1 lead at the interval. Daley scored in the 54th and 78th minutes, the first from the penalty spot while the second was created from a superb solo run where he used his pace to devastating effect.

Leighton Neita (37th) and Weston Forrest (70th) were the other goalscorers for Meadhaven.

Hodges' double

Valentine Gardener added to Hodges' double (27th and 45th), both of which came from goalmouth scrambles, in the 65th minute.

Alrick Clarke, Meadhaven's coach, welcomed the victory, his team's second of the season. "This is a step in the right direction," Clarke said, but warned, "we still have some work to do. "We started to use most of the youngsters who were playing together and it paid off," he said.

Rivoli coach Donald Edwards blamed a lack of concentration for his team's defeat.

"We got caught up celebrating when we scored and the discipline went away, " Edwards said.
