Jamaican Men Win Gold in 4 x 100M relay in World Record Time

Minutes after the Jamaican women crashed out of the 4x100 M relay race, the men delivered the goods safely and claimed the GOLD medal in a world record time of 37.10. The Jamaican team of Nesta Carter, Micheal Frater, Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell ran well to win Jamaica's first 4x100 relay Gold Medal at the Olympic games in history.

The Trinidad and Tobago team, of Keston Bledman, Marc Burns, Emmanuel Callander and Richard Thompson, finished 2nd in 38.06. The main challenge was expected to come from USA team but they dropped the baton in the heats and failed to advance. The team from Japan finished 3rd.

This win increases the Jamaican medal tally to 10, six Golds, three Silvers, and one Bronze. Usain Bolt has now won three GOLD medals at the Beijing Olympic Games and has been involved in 3 World Records.

The world record time of 37.10 was a full 0.96 seconds faster than Trinidad and Tobago and the widest margin of victory in the Olympics since 1936. The record run sliced 0.3 seconds off the previous world record, 37.40, set by USA team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics Games and equalled by the same team at the 1993 World Championships.
