Women qualify for 200m semi

 
All three Jamaican women qualified for the 200 metre semi-finals at the Beijing Olympics this morning.

Sherone Simpson and Veronica Campbell-Brown won their heats in 22.60 and 22.64 respectively, while Kerron Stewart came second in her heat with a time of 22.74 seconds.

For the men's 200 metre, Usain Bolt secured his place in tomorrow's final by comfortably winning his semi-final with a time of 20.09 seconds. Fellow Jamaican Christopher Williams failed to qualify after he finished sixth in his semi-final.

This morning, Maurice Wignall and Richard Phillips also advanced to the semi-finals of the 110 metre hurdles. Wignall won his heat in 13.36 seconds while Phillips qualified as one of the fastest losers with a time of 13.48. The finals of the men's 200 metres will be at 9:20 a.m. while the 110 metre hurdles semi-finals will be run at 8:30 a.m.
