Albert creates history

BEIJING:

JAMAICA'S SAMANTHA Albert, riding the 14-year-old mare Before I Do It, finished 33 of the 44 riders who ended the opening day of the equestrian discipline, eventing, at the Sha Tin Racing Complex in Hong Kong yesterday.

Albert, who became Jamaica's first equestrian, piled up 56.30 penalty points in the intermediate results of the dressage. Day Two of dressage is on today, while the cross-country is tomorrow with the four-day event scheduled to be completed on Tuesday with show jumping.

Australia's Lucinda Fredericks, on Headley Britannia, is leading the way with just 30.40 penalty points, Karin Donkins (Gazelle de la Brasserie) of Germany has 21.70, while Megan Jones (Irish Jester), also of Australia, is on 35.40.
