Six-love win keeps Jamaica on course - Haiti clinch quarter-final berth

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Jamaica easily won their second match, but Wislet St Louis netted a first-half brace as Haiti beat Cayman Islands to secure the first quarter-final spot in the Caribbean Football Union Youth Cup here on Saturday.

The young Reggae Boyz waltzed to a 6-0 defeat of the Netherland Antilles in Group E to maintain their 100 per cent record, but the Haitians knocked over the Cayman Islands 4-0 in Group C at Guaracara Park, to move into the next round of the tournament.

Haiti, who participated in last year's FIFA Under-17 World Championship in Korea along with T&T, had defeated St Kitts/Nevis 2-0 in their opener on Thursday and with only three teams in their group, Saturday's win clinched them the quarter-final berth.

It means today's final group match between Cayman and St Kitts/Nevis is now a battle for second spot.

Haiti leading

St Louis got his goals in the 25th and 26th minutes for Haiti to lead 2-0 at the interval and in the second-half, Jeff Theodore (67th) and Jeff Louis (89th), completed the rout to give Haiti six points from their two matches.

At the Fatima College Ground, Ashani Fairclough and Marvin Morgan fired in braces as Jamaica continued their fine showing in the tournament.

Fairclough opened Jamaica's scoring in the 19th minute before Morgan doubled the lead in the 36th minute. Fairclough added his second two minutes later as Jamaica led 3-0 at half-time.

Morgan got his second in the 60th before Clint Samuel (81st) and Kavarse Bloomfield (90th) added goals in the dying stages of the game to compound the Dutch team's misery.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, who defeated Turks & Caicos in their opener, also won for a second time in as many outings, with a 3-1 win over Dominica.

Nyron Samuel scored on either side of the half for SVG and Teeron Edwards netted the other after Malcolm Joseph had given Dominica a 17th minute lead.

In Group A, Yauder Lahdira scored the first hat-trick of the championship as Cuba made it two straight wins, after another 7-0 triumph, this time over Turks & Caicos at St Mary's College.

Early goal

Lahdira opened the scoring as early as the third minute and added to his tally in the fifth and 66th minutes for the Cubans who had crushed Dominica by a similar margin on Thursday.

Randy Lizama, Louis Portal and Over Urgellez chipped in with one each for Cuba, who will meet St Vincent and the Grenadines in a battle for first place in the group today.

In Group D, Bermuda ran out 6-0 winners over Aruba with Dante Leverock and Zeiko Lewis scoring doubles to propel their side to the top of the table after completing their round-robin campaign at the Marvin Lee Stadium with four points from two matches.

In the final Group D, match, hosts Trinidad & Tobago, who were held to a 1-1 draw by the Bermudans, must now beat Aruba by seven goals to win the group and secure a quarter-final spot.

At the end of round-robin phase today, the six group winners along with two best second-place finishers will progress to the quarter-finals carded for Wednesday
